Midland: Haley Memorial Library & History Center

Historians and those merely curious about Western heritage will enjoy the Haley Library and History Center, named for the wife of legendary rancher and writer J. Evetts Haley, who interviewed more than 700 pioneers in the American Southwest. The facility contains a tremendous archive of books and documents dedicated primarily to ranching culture and a modest yet impressive collection of Western artifacts, including a historic bell that once hung at the Alamo, saddles from regional pioneer families and a collection of silver spurs. The building also hosts occasional exhibits featuring the work of local and regional artists.
