Brackettville: 175th Anniversary Observance

October 10, 2015 (All day) to October 11, 2015 (All day)
Event site - Las Moras Spring

There has never been any remembrance of the fight which took place at Las Moras Spring on the morning of October 13, 1840 between Comanche People and the Army of the Republic of Texas. The event was erased from memory and history by the passage of time. In 2015 it will have been a journey of 175 years since that fateful morning at a place now familiar to us all.

Our concept is simple … to remember that day so long ago with reverence and honor the two parties who then opposed each other and are now friends, Comanches and Texans. We have invited representatives of the Comanche Nation and Texas Army living historians to establish heritage encampments in Rendezvous Park on Columbus Day weekend 9-12 October 2015. Resolutions have been adopted by the Kinney County Commissioners Court, the Rio Grande Electric Cooperative and the Fort Clark Springs Association, Inc. designating Sunday, October 11, 2015, for observance and commemoration of the 175th anniversary and urging all citizens to join in special remembrance on that day of our Kinney County heritage at the site of the event. The event will be open to the public both Saturday and Sunday.
